And I thought the glass ceiling would be an issue...

Face first. Full speed.
That's how I ran into a glass door when leaving work.

See, the door is evil. It is already responsible for a couple of other crashes of my co-workers. And today it claimed me. A colleague of mine sent out a memo yesterday that we should try to save money (and the earth) by turning lighs off and door closed to keep the warmth in. So when I left work I turned off the lights in my office and walked towards the exit. Unfortunately, it was so dark that I didn't see that the door in front of me was closed. I realised however that this was the case when my nose hit the glass.

My teeth are still ringing. My nose is swollen (it's not like it wasn't big enough to begin with). And I feel a little worn down by pain, shock and humiliation. But my head doesn't hurt and I don't feel sick. So I decided not to go to the hospital but to make myself feel better with Grammelknödeln, Coca Cola and ice cream. I hope my food is ready soon. Am hungry and in dire need of comfort. I'll just crash on the couch and watch some brainless TV.

I sure hope the swelling goes down. Got no ointments here for that. Just ice packs.
OK, I just called my mum to ask her to bring me some traumeel. Do I feel less grown up now? Maybe. But that stuff really works wonders. I was basically using it daily as a kid, even back then I always managed to constantly bump into things.

I like it where the sun don't shine

This is not actually a sexual (p)reference but about that thought I kept forgetting for days now. The thing is, I don't like the sun. Not when it's full-on, summer, noon, evil sun. I have mentioned before that I have issues with heat, but I realised that it's actually the sun. I hate the bugger. Especially when there's not a single movement of air as well. Which is how it is these days.
I can stand heat, I even go to the sauna and such, but the sun burning down on me just isn't something I can handle. I get crabby and aggressive. I basically scoot from shadow to shadow, almost flattening myself against the cool walls of houses.
I am pretty glad that the next couple of days it will cool down a bit. I think I'm one of the very few people who rejoice when it's raining or at least cloudy.

on a different matter: do you have any idea how practical opposable thumbs are? I just found out since I sprained my right thumb on monday during training. It was my first training session in a long time and it was my own fault (I was holding the pad in a stupid angle while someone else , someone strong, was having a go at it with his fists), but so worth it, because I really enjoyed the training in general. Unfortunately now my thumb still hurts like hell. Typing works, but writing by hand is seriously out of the question. Also, thumbs are needed for quite a lot of actions in daily life. Who woulda thought...

tongue in cheek

I'm doing fine with the braces - was doing fine. until today when a piece of wire decided to come loose and constantly prick me in the cheek. which, by now, is raw and in pain.

a couch and all it entails

we bought our new couch yesterday. and because it weighs 100 kilos that entailed much pain. both from getting it up to the second floor, which is when I slipped on the stairs (ouch) which pretty much fucked up my back, AND from the fact that it meant shopping at IKEA with the gf and the in-laws. now I do like the in-laws, a lot, but I just don't like it when people try to tell me how to buy things and I end up having to argue against the cheaper cushion just because both the gf and I happen to like the one that's slightly more expensive but also more comfy. But by that point the gf is already doubting her choice because isn't there a point in buying the cheaper one? well, since we can actually afford the better one - no, there's no fucking point! I never had to argue my way through IKEA before, not even with my own parents, so I just skulked slightly ahead of the three of them, engaging only in the most necessary discussions. And then I had lactose-attack - I still can't pinpoint the dairy culprit - and people looked at me sitting at the curb like I was one hell of a junkie...

also I really wanted that tray but most obviously my opinions and decisions don't count on saturdays...

but wait, there's more...

see the cripple dance...

I sprained my ankle and finn probably ripped some muscles in her thighs - whatever it is we're both not quite walking right these days. it's actually more of a wobble than a walk. but that's not the reason why we decided to skip pride this year. no, we just wanted to have a nice saturday instead of spending it at a parade that gets more boring with each year, with a community that is crappy throughout the rest of the year, and loads of bystanders who just come to gape. Sorry, I'm not your regular zoo animal...

So we stayed at home, made burgers for three when a friend of finn's stopped by for lunch, watched loads of movies and series, played computer games, read comics, ate junk food, cuddled up on the couch, slept in and overall had a lovely weekend at home. same on sunday. It was the best decision ever to keep away from the phoney fun! (thanks babe for convincing me)

now it's monday - how did THAT happen again? -, babe's off to work, and I have a 260 page thesis to read, cuz I have to bring the book back to the library, like yesterday, and haven't even started reading it. Ah well... watch the cripple dance...

I am SUCH a fuck up....

my arm feels like my arm again

I can move it. I try not to do it too much, but just knowing that I can makes me happy. it was weird though trying not to sleep on the side I'm just to sleeping on, because if I do I always put my arm under my pillow and that twisting of it can be quite painful.

I conclude (also in recognition of LG's knee problem): joint aches suck. majorly. you kinda need these things to work in daily life.

the hammock and the pains

we bought a hammock. it's taking up half our living room, but it's also - wait for it - fucking AWESOME!

my pains are not just heartaches but also real physical aches. I had three shots in my shoulder today, because it has been hurting ever since I had that bike accident last september. well now, after these three excruciating shots my shoulder hurts to a point where I can't move my arm without wincing. even typing is kinda awful. My physician has told me to go easy on it, no sports, but I can't just stop doing shinergy! I mean, I NEED the exercise, I go all grumpy and fidgety if I can't do that. So I'll go see the only doctor I can stand (I even like him!) next week: my osteopath. Let's see what he suggests.
