bunny update

I actually wrote the "bunny tummy" post yesterday morning but my stupid phone didn't send it until today. by now sam is actually a lot better. at the vet yesterday he already tried to make a run for it. he got a few shots again and we fed him twice more, but he nibbled on a few real food items yesterday and by this morning he was already munching away on some hay. so we're both really relieved. finn will be taking him to the vet again today to have another x-ray done to see if the contrast agent passed all the way through his intestinal tract.
I myself am stuck at work - which is really depressing on a Sunday, especially if you haven't really slept a lot in the past 36 hours. I'll be here almost til midnight. grml.

what's wrong, you ask?

Sam seems to have grasped the concept of going inside to sleep.
Lorelei on the other hand prefers to take a nap in the toilet. Where have we gone wrong with this bunny?

strange things happen

I actually slept well last night, even slept all through it and managed to put in an hour of thesis reading this morning. now I shall have my breakfast and watch an episode of e.r. before dragging my ever-fatter-getting ass to work :)

p.s.: lorelei is going nuts in the bunny cage. she's declared war against the "toilet" in the corner, trying to unhinge it an drag it around like she did with the older, smaller one we had put there. except we bought a bigger one yesterday and it's almost funny watching her trying to drag that huge thing while sam desperately just wants to take a nap. she's our little aggro-bunny. lol

You can have your bread and eat it too

Our bunnies like dry, hardened bread.

Sam likes to it eat.

Lorelei however likes to pick it up with her teeth, run around the living room enclosure, jump over the tunnel, run through the tunnel (where poor Sam is holding out), do a lap of honour and finally stand up on her hind legs for a minute - all the while keeping the piece of bread in her mouth - until she jumps back into the cage and onto the roof of the "house" where she drops the bread and watches it flop down from the roof onto the floor of the cage.

Then she tries to eat it.

And then she picks it up again and carries it into the tunnel to share it with her brother. She's officially a nutty bunny. And she might need therapy for thinking she's a dog. If only she'd learn to retrieve me some snacks ;)

eat up!

sam's home. the operation went fine and he's started to roam a bit, but he's still quite groggy. the only thing is: he hasn't eaten or sipped water yet. and his ears are quite a bit colder than usually.

bye bye cojones

poor sammy will have his castration today. we wanted to wait a little longer, but unfortunately he has begun bugging poor lorelei a couple of days ago getting more and more aggressive, and we don't want to risk anything. after all a pregnancy would at this point be much more dangerous to her than getting his balls off is for him. still, I'm quite nervous that he'll be going under anesthesia in a couple of hours. after all he's just tiny little bunny. so keep your fingers crossed for us please. the vet seems to be great one though. she said she has never in all her years as a vet lost a bunny on the table.

best bunnies ever

we finally got a name for her too: lorelei (gilmore)
I hereby present:

Fat Sam & Lorelei Gilmore

I love these bunnies. He came out of his shell yesterday, he's now drinking, eating and romping around as crazily as his little sister. this morning they even jumped over onto my legs which were positioned next to the cage. They're nosy and crazy and funny and just overall enormously adorable.
