vacay

I can't believe the weekend is finally, FINALLY here.
Because by yesterday I was totally out of it. Left for the Austrian-Hungarian border in the morning, did some talking to people about the Schengen-expansion, froze my ass off and took the train back to Vienna at about noon. I went straight to the office, wrote a huge article about it, edited another article, finished my other huge article so it is ready for use on Wednesday when I'm not at work. Then I had a mini-meeting with a colleague, we're gonna be producing a whole page together some time in the near future so we had to discuss who's going to do what. Then I did some minor work until we all left for our departmental Christmas dinner at about 7 p.m. our boss was buying. very very yummy Nepalese food. mhhhhh. and I had fun. I really like working with these people. They're all nut cases, but that way I just fit in better ;)
So Finn picked me up at the place after dinner, by that time it was already past nine I think. and we walked to a cocktail bar where a school friend of mine was celebrating his birthday - I was completely knackered already, but I genuinely like the guy so we went anyway. and had fun again. And at half past two, 17 hours after having left our apartment I finally got home, had a shower and crashed - only to be woken by Sam and Lorelei creating HAVOC at nine in the morning. grrrrrr. I love those bunnies, but... argh. I really was planning on more sleep. Ah well, they had a right to be hungry and they totally make up for waking me by being adorable just now. Sam is dozing in a corner and the little one is looking for things she could destroy :D

I'm quite content at the moment. Finn is on the floor trying to take pictures of the LEGO beach club we spent the last couple of hours building. (So cool!) Tomorrow is my birthday and besides breakfast in bed I was promised a big surprise in the afternoon. I have no clue where we're going but supposedly it's gonna be great. also we'll be making our own sushi for lunch. oh how I love sushi....

btw.
I think I'm hungry now.

when good things almost make you cry

When my mum wrote me an email last week that finn and I had a chance to get a free holiday, I almost cried. It turned out that I have an insurance that provides me with a voucher every two years. Fortunately I can use the voucher in a couple of spa hotels around Austria. For instance I can get 4 nights for one person or 2 nights for 2 - for free. So today I booked a two night-holiday for finn and me at a spa hotel in one of Austria's nicest provinces for end of december. For free. Massage included. I think I'm going to almost cry again.

snowdrops kept falling on my head

When I got up this morning to go to the bakery I was greeted by this year's first snowfall. While I was away getting bread, finn got up too and took some pictures of the snow herself. It was probably only 10 minutes after I'd left, but that was all it took for the roof next door to get properly coated in white.

Even though it was the wet kind of snow I enjoyed the walk down to the bakery and back. I even brought finn a little snow when I got home :)
I like snow. In the past two years it made itself scarce and I really really missed it.

see the cripple dance...

I sprained my ankle and finn probably ripped some muscles in her thighs - whatever it is we're both not quite walking right these days. it's actually more of a wobble than a walk. but that's not the reason why we decided to skip pride this year. no, we just wanted to have a nice saturday instead of spending it at a parade that gets more boring with each year, with a community that is crappy throughout the rest of the year, and loads of bystanders who just come to gape. Sorry, I'm not your regular zoo animal...

So we stayed at home, made burgers for three when a friend of finn's stopped by for lunch, watched loads of movies and series, played computer games, read comics, ate junk food, cuddled up on the couch, slept in and overall had a lovely weekend at home. same on sunday. It was the best decision ever to keep away from the phoney fun! (thanks babe for convincing me)

now it's monday - how did THAT happen again? -, babe's off to work, and I have a 260 page thesis to read, cuz I have to bring the book back to the library, like yesterday, and haven't even started reading it. Ah well... watch the cripple dance...
